Hello Everyone and Happy Autumn! Welcome to my Sirona Falls newsletter to my newcomers, and hello again to those of you who have been following along since the beginning. I am relieved to be finished with my big studio move, glad to be back in the swing of my teaching, and excited to be doing more finish-work in my house. Choosing colors, painting and installing trim, and bargain hunting… these tasks are so much more in my wheelhouse. Of course, there is still lots of insulating and drywalling left to do in other rooms! Now that I am getting so far along on the house, I think I had better start sharing pictures of the process from the very beginning. In fact, before we even began on the house, as we were going through the endless stages of designing and acquiring our building permit, we built a rather large barn/garage/shop. We had been using a “shop tent” to keep our materials and power tools dry, and it frankly was not working… every thunderstorm was making it a little more bent and unstable and nothing was staying dry. A barn would be useful to us during the construction phase, and will give me covered teaching space in the future. However, the site we chose for the barn just so happened to have the largest and most luscious patch of moss you can possibly imagine, and I just couldn’t bear to see it destroyed. So, two years ago, I spent many days hand-digging up patches of moss, moving them wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow full, and transplanting them. I put moss in and around the shade garden I have been creating, alongside paths, into other torn up ground from earlier projects… anywhere and everywhere. Therefore, my “Feature Project” this month will be the barn, and the “Nature Spotlight” will be my wondrous, humble, and much-beloved sphagnum mosses! Finally, I am really starting to prepare for my sale. Last night I documented over 100 works of art, so prepare to see some sneak-peaks all over this email. Have a wonderful last day of September!
