Hello Everyone and Happy New Year! As I reflect on 2024, I am so fulled with gratitude for the incredible community that I have: thank you all for your generous support of my sale, which performed even better than I had dared to hope. Thank you also for following along on my journey as I built this ambitious and unruly project from the ground up. I have been reflecting a lot with my loved ones about the concept of “community” lately. When I was 18 and 19 years old and just beginning to do large-scale community mural projects, I learned many valuable lessons. The most important one was this: the kind of activism that makes sense to me is the small-scale, the local, the community-based. Anything else makes me feel like I am trying to steer a cruise ship with a kayak paddle. However, focusing on the small things can lead to tangible results. When you can actually see changes happen, even tiny improvements, you feel fulfilled and rejuvenated, energized to keep going. Along the way, relationships and connections are built and deepened. The community involved becomes stronger and more resilient, as do the individuals who make them up. This year, I needed to be reminded of that lesson. I am so honored to have such an incredible network of people that believe in me and support my vision. You all are my community, and I am honored to be connected to you. In this December Newsletter, I will share a brief recap of my year, including some fun statistics from my big sale, progress at Sirona Falls, and other highlights from 2024. In January, I will resume my usual format to this newsletter, with each month sharing a “Feature Project”on my property and a “Nature Spotlight” of some magnificent living thing I have observed at my place. I wish you all a peaceful, healthful, and prosperous 2025 in which you are able to nurture your connections to community. Thank you all so much for being a part of my 2024.
